What is “Infotainment”? How can it help my business?

Plain and simple, “infotainment” is a term in television that combines the words information, and entertainmentInformation + Entertainment = Infotainment. Infotainment is designed to both entertain and inform viewers as they watch.

TV solutions that include infotainment are popular choices for waiting rooms. They’re popular choices for lounges. And they’re just as popular in lobbies as well. The programming is typically chosen to give visitors something to occupy them while they wait. It’s more interesting than digital signage, and safer to display than cable TV. As time goes on, more and more businesses are looking to add infotainment on their screens.

Where Can I Find Infotainment for My Business or Waiting Room?

A lot of people start by searching on the internet for interesting content to display in their businesses. Unfortunately the vast majority of video content found on the net, on YouTube, or inside of Hulu or Netflix is not licensed for commercial use. That is, you can’t simply just grab some fun videos off of the internet and throw them on TV in your business. You physically can, but could find yourself in some serious legal trouble. It’s not worth it.

It’s Relevant TV has one of the largest collections of infotainment videos licensed for public and commercial display. IRTV takes care of all of the contracts and licensing fees on behalf of the businesses that use them. In addition to the content that they provide, they also provide a full-customizable display system that does the job of combining the programs with your business’s own videos and messages. You can find out more about this solution by visiting: http://www.itsrelevant.com

Reasons to Switch Off Cable

Cable TV business subscriptions are licensed for commercial displays. And while cable TV has it’s place in the home, it’s not a great fit for businesses. The television shows you see featured on cable networks aren’t made for businesses in mind, they’re made for home settings where people sit down to watch the shows they select for a period of time. In public businesses and medical offcies, the visitors neither have the time or control to watch what they want.

When you’re in a waiting room you’re doing one thing – waiting; and while familiar TV shows and programming can work as a fair distraction if they are picked carefully, cable TV really doesn’t cut it. Just think, hundreds of channels with 20-50 programs per day per channel. It’s impossible to make everyone happy staying on just one station. It’s also impossible to filter out the programming that is coming from a cable or satellite provider. With solutions like It’s Relevant TV you can utilize the infotainment they provide, while keeping strong filters and control over what appears on your screens.

Business Marketing: Top 3 Mistakes Business Owners Make With Their TV

Business marketing is a fickle thing. Between all the tools, platforms, and ways to get your messaging across, too few realize the potential of their TVs; and those that do are at risk of a few common mistakes. This article tackles the top 3 mistakes business owners are prone to making when it comes to their TVs.

1. Using Netflix, Hulu, and DVDs

The growing number of business owners who put recorded movies or shows on their TVs without realizing the risk is at the top of the list. Netflix, Hulu, DVDs, and streaming services are not for commercial use – meaning you cannot play them in your business without being at risk for heavy fines. The people who own the rights to that media take licensing very seriously. You can read more about Netflix-like licensing rights in the following article: Using Netflix: Don’t Put Your Business At Risk.

Legality aside, feature-length films and TV shows don’t compliment business settings. Long-form anything isn’t ideal for waiting rooms, bars, restaurants, or medical offices; they’re for home settings. Furthermore, they do nothing to help your business marketing, brand, or bottom line, when just a TV could be used to improve all 3.

2. Cable Subscriptions

Running cable in your business follows the same classic blunder of running services like Netflix or Hulu – the content just isn’t ideal for business settings. While legal, cable television is a moneypit many fall into. You pay an increasingly costly cable bill each month to put something on the TV that brings nothing back to your business.

In addition to being a growing expense, cable invites competitors into your business. You have no control over commercial ads from competing brands showing up on your screen for visitors to see while they’re in your business. A well-placed ad at the right time could turn a regular customer over to a new brand, taking them away form your business. In the end, what’s worse is that you’re paying for all of this to happen.

Cable is great at home, not so much in your business.

3. Dry/Uninteresting Content

Owners who recognize the potential for their TVs to be effective business marketing tools are free of the costs and problems that usually come with cable. But without cable or a streaming service, where will they get interesting content from? Custom videos or looping displays aren’t without their own drawbacks. They run the risk of their content either being too boring, repetitive, or even gross/graphic in some cases.

Boring Content: We all know what boring content is, and how it makes us feel. For TV it’s videos and messaging that people either aren’t interested in, or isn’t enticing enough to get their attention. Back-to-back videos of your brand, specials, or things you want people to see might be perceived as annoying, causing visitors to tune out your message.

Repetitive Content: Looping displays that show the same videos over and over again is a good way to turn people away from your message. Unless your library of content has enough videos, visitors will see the same thing on repeat – increasing the chances for a bad experience. Looping video displays are a poor business marketing strategy for locations with folks spending more than a few seconds in front of the TV.

Gross/Graphic Content: This point, however relevant in a general sense, most often applies to businesses in the medical industry. Videos or informative pieces on the body, illnesses, or intense surgical procedures are usually the last thing people want to see while waiting. Apart from being unsettling, it can foster a bad impression of your brand and affect what people think of your business. Put something on the TV that will interest people and reduce anxiety.

Netflix For Businesses: Finding A Netflix-Like Service For Commercial Use

Finding a Netflix-like service licensed for commercial use is a challenge that a lot of business owners face. All too often business owners will set up Netflix on their business TV without realizing, or in some cases not caring, that doing so is in violation of Netflix’s Terms & Conditions. The actual cost of licensing a movie or TV show can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars – which is far more than most businesses are able to set aside for their TV budget.

Netflix isn’t licensed for commercial use; so can you show Netflix in public? The short answer is no.

The Draw of Netflix-Like Services

The variety of movies and TV shows available on Netflix, mixed with welcoming atmosphere it generates, simply can’t be beat. So much so that people will break the law in order to play popular movies on their TV and hope no one finds out – it isn’t worth putting your business at risk. Legality aside, it’s not hard to see why a service like Netflix is something business owners gravitate towards. Below is a short list of luxuries people look for in Netflix-like streaming services:

1. Content: Popular movies and TV shows that people recognize or watch at home are familiar, help pass the time when waiting, and reduce anxiety in cases like medical offices. Having thousands of videos to pick from beats putting your own library of content together.

2. Pricing: Not counting Netflix’s rate of $10/month, which is a literal steal and not a rate that includes commercial use, a lot of streaming services and TV display packages are less expensive than the cost of cable – saving business owners money in the long run.

3. Investment: The idea, or hope, of getting a worthwhile return from something that costs money is a sound sentiment. Whether it’s more revenue, more business, or even positive reviews – getting a lot without spending a lot is always nice. Who doesn’t appreciate a good investment?

Movies & Long-Form TV Shows Aren’t the Best for Businesses

Netflix-like streaming services may seem like the ideal thing to throw on a TV, but there’s one fact to consider. By and large, cable, and other TV packages, are designed with a home setting in mind. The shows may be familiar to visitors but people aren’t at a business or office to watch 30+ minutes of a TV show.

It’s Relevant TV is Netflix For Business

It’s Relevant TV is a platform with a lot of advantages. The service, designed with customer retention in mind, gives users control and comes with all the features business owners look for in a TV solution, and more:

1. Content: It’s Relevant TV’s content comes from a library of over half a million videos spread across 40 categories. All of that content is short-form, family-friendly, and changes often giving you more opportunities to engage your visitors.

2. Pricing: It’s Relevant TV is less expensive than what most businesses are already paying for cable or TV displays.

3. Investment: It’s Relevant TV isn’t an expense. Clients that use It’s Relevant end up bringing in more monthly revenue from increased business. The following link leads to an ROI Calculator that shows how much more revenue It’s Relevant TV can help bring in per month: IRTV ROI Calculator.

4. Social Media Followership: It’s Relevant TV is able to link directly with a business’s social media accounts. Recent posts from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram can be pulled onto the TV for people to see. Sharing the most recent posts gives visitors more reasons to follow, and encourages them to get more engaged the your brand.

5. Digital Messaging & Informing Visitors: It’s Relevant TV is designed to get visitors informed services they might not have been aware of – educating them on reasons to come back more, and spend more. It’s Relevant features free adspace on the side for business owners to utilize, allowing them to get their messages across while people are engaged with our content.

It’s Relevant combines the TV shows people enjoy watching, but allows for more control and more promotion. Visit: www.itsrelevant.com for more information.

Do I Have Enough Videos to Display on a TV in my Business?

Good question. If you’re a business owner looking to do more with your TV, then chances are you’ve seen the value of using custom videos to showcase your brand. Swapping out cable for something with a little more personal touch can be a great investment if done correctly. If you’re looking for an alternative to cable, check out It’s Relevant TV.

Getting the Most Out of Your Custom Videos

The first step towards making a successful business TV is content. Whether it’s content that you paid someone to make for you or content that you put together yourself, the videos that play are the bread and butter of your business TV.

But how many videos is too little, or too much?

Having too few custom videos gets repetitive – looping the same thing again and again is boring. Showcasing only a few of your own videos on their own may turn your messages into something that ends up annoying people instead of attracting them. If you’re looking to keep things interesting, you don’t want to show the same thing over and over again.

When it comes to the other side of the coin, there isn’t necessarily such a thing as too many custom videos. The longer your list of content, the more you’re exposing people to your brand. If there is a downside to building an effective library of content, it’s the time and money that goes into producing it, and sometimes maintaining it. Unless you have a lot of both to invest in your TV, it can be difficult putting together something worthwhile.

You Don’t Need That Many Videos if You Have a Partner:
Consider It’s Relevant TV

If you’re interested in utilizing custom videos on your business TV, and what you have doesn’t fit your vision – It’s Relevant can help. We recommend creating a custom TV network that combines the videos you have – even if it’s only 1 or 2, with loads of other content to keep your visitors interested.

Our library of content features over half a million videos. So we’ve got you covered when it comes to bringing in the rest. If you have your own videos that feature your own brand, explore what It’s Relevant TV can do for your message:

It’s Relevant provides businesses with a living, breathing, TV network that is fully customizable and easy to control. Our platform delivers interesting, short-form content that draws people’s attention so they can see your messages playing alongside the videos. If there’s something you want visitors to walk away with after they leave your business, we can help you get that message across.

Marketing Inside Your Business: Broaden Your Marketing Horizon

Most marketing dollars are spent on “external marketing.” That is, marketing which is done physically outside your business. Having to market is necessary for any business – it allows you to advertise your brand, giving you the chance to bring in new customers, and remind old ones that you still exist. There are plenty of ways to get your message out and raise brand awareness, though they are often quite expensive…

Some of the Most Common External Marketing Techniques:
– Billboards ($3,000 – $30,000+)
– TV Commercials (Local: $200 – $1,500+ / National: $342,000+)
– Facebook Advertising ($7.19 @ 1000 CPM)
– Google AdWords (Avg: $1 – $2 per click / High: $50 per click)
– Newspaper Ads ($7.25 – $43.50)
– Bus Ads (Small: $150 – $600 / Large: $3,000 – $6,500)

A Less Expensive Alternative

If there is one downside to an external market solution, it is the high cost that comes with it – though advertising on platforms outside your business isn’t the only answer. Too few business owners recognize the potential to market inside  their businesses when such a solution can be both cost effective, and beneficial for drawing in more business – not from attracting new customers, but rather by getting older ones to return instead. In the end, the most important step is choosing which platform will carry your brand and message.

It’s Relevant TV is an Inexpensive Internal Marketing Solution

When it comes to market strategies there are two simple truths to consider. One; it’s more expensive to market outside of your business than it is to market inside it. And two; it’s easier to get an existing customer to come back than it is to get a new customer to visit for the first time. That’s where It’s Relevant TV shines.

It’s Relevant is a service that transforms business TVs into tools that not only allows you to market your brand, but improves visitor experience as well. The service gives your business access to ever-changing interesting short-form content that’s designed to draw the eye better than traditional signage. And while people are engaged, they are exposed to your brand and messages. It’s Relevant TV saves on the traditional marketing costs while using a more effective medium – your TV. It targets existing customers, getting them to come back more, and spend more.

Business Owners: Get More Mileage out of Your Videos

Does Your Business Have A Video?

More and more businesses are creating videos and seeing the value. Videos are a great way to demonstrate a product, detail a service, or introduce people to your staff. Videos can be time consuming to create, and expensive to make. While we have observed a growth in the number of businesses making videos, the majority of them fail to think about the next step: How do you get customers to see it?

We see the video process as having two parts: Production & Distribution. Production is the planning, shooting and editing of the video. Distribution is taking the finished video and putting it in front of people. While there has been a great increase in attention paid to the production, distribution is something many forget to focus on.

Where Are You Putting Your Finished Videos?

So where do your videos go? How do you get them seen? How do you measure the success of a video you’ve made? These are all questions you should ask yourself.

We’ve found that many business owners take a “Field of Dreams” approach to video distribution. The famous quote from the movie, “If you build it they will come”. If you build a great video and throw it on YouTube, you will soon find that your intended audience will not find it automatically.

It’s similar to printing fliers. Just because you’ve printed 100 fliers and have them stacked in a box, doesn’t mean people will seem them. You have to do the work to get those 100 fliers into 100 prime locations to reach your desired audience. Video works in much the same way. Even though you aren’t passing out physical videos, you do have to think about how to place them in front of people you want to see them. Youtube, your website, community pages etc. are all places you can start. We have found a primary space for these videos should be on TV in your business location(s).

Putting Your Videos on TV

download
This doesn’t have to be your TV solution.

Having your videos on TV will draw more attention to them.  It will get them seen by customers that are more likely to act upon your messaging.

There are many ways you can get your videos onto TVs in your locations. We have details the top methods in this article: 3 Ways to put your videos on TV.

The problem with most display solutions is that they loop. Unless you have a large library of content at the ready, people are going to watch the same thing again and again with no break and nothing new. Maintenance and upkeep are also issues – often needing to brave a utility closet full of wires, re-load physical drives or USB sticks, or having to hire a specialist in order to update or fix what’s on the TV.

Making the Most out of Your Videos

Putting an easy-to-use system in place that will play your videos and mix them with other TV programming is key.  It’s Relevant TV takes the majority of the work away- providing your business with relevant TV programming, and a way to make the most out of your media.

It’s Relevant is a cable alternative that provides businesses a TV solution in the form of a living network of short-form content. IRTV’s library of videos is broken up into categories for you to choose from based on your customer’s interests, and gives you full control over what’s on your TV. The service provides compliments to your own videos as well as complete management of one or multiple TVs. IRTV tracks everything so you can know how many times each of your videos were displayed, along with specific timing and location.

The big difference between It’s Relevant TV and other solutions is in the content. IRTV provides interesting and entertaining content while inserting your own messages and real-time social media for people to see while engaged.

Beat the Snow: Manage Your Messaging on the Go

Wallpaper-white-21

Trying to manage a business is hard enough without weather getting in the way. If snow is in the forecast, and you take your first look outside to find the world looks like the picture above, chances are the last thing you want to do, or even should do, is go out driving in that winter wonderland.

But you’re a business owner. Or a manager who is responsible for your location, or locations. In the event of poor weather, conditions may prompt your business to change strategy, close, or reduce hours. Given the severity of the forecast, it’s entirely possible that loyal customers will nevertheless visit your business – unaware of the irregular hours. In lieu, and in anticipation of bad weather, business owners need to inform visitors of any changes. If driving is a bad idea, how does one manage?

A Tool to Manage Your Business

It’s Relevant TV features the ability to control the TVs in your business from your phone – from anywhere. There’s no need to dig out your car or brave icy roads when you’re able to send out messages from your phone for people to see on the TVs at your locations. Inform visitors of possible closings, irregular hours, or even reminders to travel safely on the roads.

Take a look at a message from our CEO below, demonstrating the system:

It’s Relevant TV works for any business setting with a TV. It is a tool that is less expensive than most cable subscriptions, improves visitor experience, generates more business, and allows you to get people engaged with your social media and excited about your brand. When it comes to what goes on the TV, It’s Relevant is the best option for businesses. Feel free to visit us on the web at itsrelevant.com to learn more about It’s Relevant.

Replace the DVD Player In Your Business

If you’re a business owner with a TV in your business, it goes without saying that at some point in time you sat down to consider what to have playing on it. Whether it’s basic cable, a DVD player or Netflix, an Amazon Firestick, or even a regular old USB drive with pictures and a slideshow, sometimes it’s time to revisit old tech and consider newer alternatives.

People say “Don’t fix what isn’t broken.” And this is true – no one should fritter away money on a whim. But at the same time, there’s a risk in the comfort of long standing familiarity. People who are happy with what they have seldom consider alternatives – less out of alternatives being better and more out of avoiding the hassle of change.

Out With The Old

It’s not unusual to want to get the most mileage out something, but it’s also important to recognize when something is worth revisiting. Even if it isn’t necessarily old. DVD players, services like Netflix, and external devices such as Amazon Firestick and USB Drives have broadened the options for ways you can put things on your TV.

DVD Players Are Outdated For Businesses

DVD players are great – at home. When it comes to DVD players in businesses, two common uses rise to the surface: DVDs, and looping slideshows. Regarding the former, playing a commercially available DVD, like a movie or TV show can result in a heavy fine. The reason is that even though you own the copy of the DVD, you don’t own the license to play it in public. The following article delves deeper into the risks involved when choosing to display content in your business without the rights: “Using Netflix in your Business, Don’t Put your Business at Risk!”

Legality aside, throwing a movie or the latest Disney Pixar flick up on the TV still isn’t that great of a solution. Feature-length movies can be as long as 90-120 minutes – built around characters and storytelling. Unless you’re waiting for a car to be serviced, there are few instances where putting something like a movie on for the enjoyment of visitors is going to be relevant. People don’t have the same focus to devote to a movie in a waiting room, restaurant or retailer as they do at home – and there’s no guarantee that people won’t arrive in the middle of story, or walk in on spoilers of a movie they were waiting to see. It just isn’t a good fit for businesses, and it carries the risk of disappointing visitors.

Movies aren’t the only thing that a DVD player is good for. Business owners who know that it’s illegal to show unlicensed videos, or don’t believe in playing videos in general, lean towards another option when it comes to what’s on their TVs – and that’s custom DVDs.

Custom DVDs & Slideshows Get Old Quick

It’s not uncommon for business owners to put together personal videos or collections of pictures for their TVs. While this alternative is certainly cheaper than basic cable, it isn’t without its flaws.

Custom videos loop constantly. Unless the business owner has a dedicated staff member with a lot of free time on their hands to put together a large library of content, people visiting are likely going to see the same things again and again. This can get boring, and depending on the setting in which people are waiting, the comfort of your visitors can have a large impact on their satisfaction and overall opinion of your business.

DVDs and USBs packed with videos and pictures plugged into your Smart TV lack a crutial level of customization. In order to update or make changes to either of those platforms, the devices need to be manually removed – and in the case of DVDs, new ones need to be made or switched out by hand. This is inconvenient, and in an age of innovative technology, shouldn’t be an option you have to settle for.

Another heavy loss at the cost of using custom DVDs or slideshows is the lack of live intergrations onto your TV. Features such as the local news, weather updates, and even recent posts from social media, aren’t able to be streamed and put where people are going to see it. So what else is there?

It’s Relevant TV is the Next Generation, Here Today

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but building the new.”

-Socrates

Hesitant to Change Your TV Service? You’re not Alone.

Services like cable and satellite are bought and subscribed to as early as the point of purchasing a TV. From there on out, one’s choice of provider tends to adopt a Set It & Forget It sort of mentality. You’re comfortable with what you have, you don’t ever think to replace it, and you’re “happy with it.

But what does “happy” mean here? Are you excited? Does it help your business every day? Or is saying you are “happy” more like a nice way of saying that you’re settling for what you currently have because the alternative is something unfamiliar. Very few business and offices really LOVE or even LIKE the TV service they subscribe to.

Many of our clients hesitated at first to change from away from the TV service they had. Reasons included many false assumptions like needing to schedule an installation, reading long contracts, or having to make phone calls. These can all be avoided.

The single worst feedback we’ve heard is that some business owners don’t care about what’s on their TVs!  Even if you don’t care, your customers DO! If you care about them, it’s worth considering what you put in front of them. Our clients find their visitors enjoy the programming more, complain far less, and leave better educated about their business. This can lead to a real return on investment from your TV. On top of the benefits, it’s also quite easy to make the switch. The installation is simple and doesn’t require scheduling an “appointment window”. You can install it yourself in under 5 minutes.

Why Fix what isn’t Broken?

Business owners and office managers should not settle. If there is something that is better and most cost-effective for our businesses we should explore it.

People tend to favor what’s familiar to them, pure and simple. That’s because with familiarity comes a sense of trust, reliance, and security. While there isn’t anything wrong with this, it can leave you blind to alternatives better suited for your needs. It’s less about fixing something that isn’t broken, and more about upgrading to better options.

If you were in an airplane, squished in between two people for a flight, and were given the opportunity to sit in a set of seats completely open next to you, would you move? Of course you would! Your seat may not be broken, but it’s just not as comfortable as the open seats will be. The better option is worth taking, and the sooner you make the decision to move the more time you have to enjoy the results of the change.

Fit Your Business with something Made for Business

It’s Relevant TV is a cable alternative that’s designed for the business setting. Why It’s Relevant TV?

Beyond short-form content that’s family-friendly, IRTV allows you to expose visitors to your social media and educate them about the services you provide. They become interested and engaged, come back more, and spend more on each visit. That’s where It’s Relevant TV excels. It’s built specifically for you, and it’s designed to MAKE your business money.

Generally speaking, when you see something new that you’re interested in, you look into it for more details. You take a closer look in order to see if it’s better or worse than what you currently have, and in the end chose whether or not to replace the old with the new. If you operate a business, office or public space with a TV take a few minutes to explore It’s Relevant TV. iOS 11 Hidden Feature That Will Help Your Business (iPhone/iPad)

With Apple’s release of iOS 11 on Tuesday September 19, 2017 many new features have been introduced to the iPhone and iPad. Most of these features matter mostly to consumers, not to business owners. But there is one feature in particular that businesses should take advantage of.

QR Code Scanning on the iPhone

Apple has made it easier than ever for consumers to scan QR codes while they are out and about. What are QR Codes? They are a lot like barcodes in that they are quick to scan from a compatible device but they are used in much more of an interactive way. QR codes have been used for about a decade now to bring users to web sites while out and about. They are really big in Asia, but never really took off here in the U.S.

What’s different now?

You used to need a dedicated app to scan a QR code on your iPhone. The problem has always been that once you saw a QR codeyou wanted to scan you had to fumble through your apps, find the QR scanning one, wait for it to load and then shoot the code. This long process made it hard to use QR codes in dynamic ways. Now Apple has built the technology into their standard Camera App. The Camera App remains one of the easiest to access apps on the phone, available right from the lock screen.

What are the opportunities for businesses?

Getting customers to access your websites while in your retail locations, or through ads in remote locations are a great way to grow your business. Once users access a link through a QR code, they can fill out a survey, join a loyalty club or even purchase a product that’s not available in the store.
